Narrative Description of Project:
The Project involved deployment of Content Management Systems for the High Court case files within the judiciary of the republic of Kenya. This system enabled easier retrieval, collaboration and archival of case files between the Judges and Court Clerks. It also includes an EMC Documentum solution, a storage solution to enhance business process management and workflow of their library services. In addition, a Dell physical and storage system solution was put in place.

  • The systems to be supplied and installed were mainly Cisco, specifically:
  • Pulling and termination of fiber between blocks – total of over 2.5KM pulled
  • Pulling and termination of copper within the buildings – 570 points pulled and terminated
  • Supply and installation of trunking within blocks, and manholes for the fiber outside the blocks as well as cabinets. A mixture of 9U, 20U and 42U cabinets installed
  • Supply and installation of LAN active components – Cisco 3750 used on the edge and Cisco 4500 at the core
  • Supply and installation of APC UPS in each cabinet where LAN active devices were located.

The project involved procurement of IRU Bandwidth and Related Termination Equipment for KENET Member Institutions. The Procurement of STM 4 capacity for KENET institutions was obtained from London. A STM4 was required to be activated between the KENET POP and Telecity in London. LANTech (Africa) Limited provided the equipment and the integration services.

  • Cisco 7600 series routers with SIP 400 modules and STM interfaces
  • Configuration and testing of STM4 capacity between KENET NOC and London

IIEC is a government body that was created by the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Act 2008 whose mandate is to reform the electoral process and the management of elections in order to institutionalize free and fair elections among other mandates

RTI International is an international nongovernmental institution that carries research on various aspects like Health Research, Energy Research, Environmental Research, Drug Discovery and Development among others.


Narrative Description of Project:


LANTech was successfully involved in the implementation of the Local Area Network at the new Westland’s office. The work involved the design and implementation of 100 dual voice and data outlets and the deployment of power to the server room. We also involved in the implementation of the data center that required us to mount the raised floor, pull power outlets, data point and install the air conditioning system.

Assignment Name: Microsoft Software Infrastructure


Name of Client: United States International University – Kenya


United States International University, situated in Nairobi, Kenya is the oldest private secular university in Eastern Africa. The total number of students enrolled is 4706.


Narrative Description of Project:


The project involved upgrade of the core active directory infrastructure from Windows Server 2003 to 2008 and upgrade of the messaging system to Exchange 2010 as well as the associated backup and security systems. The servers were to utilize a centralized storage system. It also involved support of the installed systems and advice on the newest technologies available and implementation of the same.  It also involved support of the installed systems and advice on the newest technologies available and implementation of the same.


Description of Actual Services Provided by our Staff:
The systems to be upgraded/ replaced were mixed vendor, with one of the main aims being to have a common base / infrastructure in order to have a unified administration. The systems being used were:
1.)    Active Directory – Windows Server 2003 Active Directory
2.)    Messaging/ Email – Microsoft Exchange 2007
3.)    Firewall – A mixture of ISA 2004 and 2006
4.)    Proxy – Squid
5.)    Backup and Business Continuity – Manual tape backup

The aim of the project was to upgrade the individual components of the system and consolidate and automate where possible. The above systems were to be upgraded as follows:
1.)    Active directory – Transition from Windows server 2003 to Windows Server 2008
2.)    Messaging – Email – Transition from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010
3.)    Firewall – Transition from ISA 2004/2006 to a cleaned up 2006
4.)    Proxy – Transfer to ISA
5.)    Backup and Business Continuity – Automate on DPM 2007
